THRACE. Byzantium. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Assarion (Orichalcum, 23 mm, 7.61 g, 12 h), Memm. Markos Heros, second archon, circa 175. BYZAZ Helmeted head of the eponymous hero Byzas to right. Rev. ЄΠΙ ΜΑΡΚΟY Β - ΒΥΖΑΝ/ΤΙΩΝ Prow to left; on top, emperor standing left on base, holding spear. RPC IV -, cf. 8719 (slightly differing reverse legend and without statue of emperor on prow). An apparently unpublished variety. Minor flan crack, otherwise, very fine.
